Quien tenga gustos comunes con Gistau: el cómic (Tintín, Corto Maltés, Mafalda, Asterix, etc), la literatura (Hemingway, Hammet, Greene, Sthendal, etc), el cine (John Ford, John Huston, Clint Eastwood, etc), el espíritu aventurero, la nostalgia, la aversión a la cursilería, Buenos Aires… la disfrutará más.
Quizás tenga algo de autobiográfica la novela de este periodista recientemente fallecido. Si te gusta leer sobre boxeo y el mundillo del hampa, vas a encontrar una obra muy entretenida. Tiene personajes interesantes y la capacidad de sumergirte en atmósferas y sensaciones que te son ajenas. La historia tiene su punto de originalidad, aunque encuentro un poco abrupto el final de ambas tramas, tal vez porque me estaba divirtiendo y emocionando con ellas.
Ha sido una lectura absorbente, entretenida y divertida, de novela de gran calidad, de novelista curtido, de alguien que sabe narrar con inteligencia, de ir contando pequeños relatos en casi cada página para ir perfilando a los personajes y a la historia. Me ha enganchado.
Una novela muy bien construida, de personaje, costumbrista que muestra los dos lados de una sociedad, un choque entre los barrios ricos y los barrios obreros que viven casi aislados los unos de los otros.
El boxeo de fondo, la farándula de la televisión, la mafia, el espectáculo, la falsedad, los valores que se tambalean como dos púgiles luchando, una historia muy entretenida con historias relacionadas entre sí y a través de un entrenador de boxeo que se ve acorralado por un mafioso, por la carrera profesional de uno de sus púgiles y por una presentadora de televisión que lo arrastra a una vida que no es la suya.
Una novela negra sobre boxeo, sobre los dos Madrides divididos por la M-30 y que viven a espaldas uno del otro; un tanto extremos, donde para ser un hombre de verdad tienes que ser de Carabanchel o Vallecas y donde todo el barrio de Salamanca o Aravaca son mundos pijos aislados del mundo; sobre el falso mundo de la televisión basura y la farándula; sobre las mafias horteras tipo Los Soprano que campean a sus anchas por el Madrid cutre y pijo. Gistau es un maestro de la metáfora, de la comparación oportuna, y cualquier cosa que escriba nos sugiere ambientes, a personas y situaciones con un puñado de palabras bien escogidas. Novela de ambientes, la trama resulta algo ucrónica e inverosímil en cuanto liga al mundo del boxeo el del crimen organizado, en España el boxeo es un deporte tan marginal que ni atrae a los hampones menos rutilantes. Un mundo de extremos, donde en cada fiesta circula la coca y se organizan peleas organizadas de boxeadores a puño limpio mientras la guardia urbana hace la vista gorda en los locales escogidos por el mafioso de turno. Entretenida, divertida.

Perhaps the novel by this recently deceased journalist is somewhat autobiographical. If you like to read about boxing and the underworld, you will find a very entertaining work. It has interesting characters and the ability to immerse yourself in atmospheres and sensations that are foreign to you. The story has its originality point, although I find the end of both plots a bit abrupt, perhaps because I was having fun and getting excited with them.
It has been an absorbing, entertaining and fun reading, of a high-quality novel, of a seasoned novelist, of someone who knows how to narrate with intelligence, of telling small stories on almost every page to outline the characters and the story. It has hooked me.
A very well constructed novel, of character, customs, which shows the two sides of a society, a clash between the wealthy neighborhoods and the working class neighborhoods that live almost isolated from each other.
The boxing in the background, the television show business, the mafia, the show, the falsehood, the values that stagger like two fighters fighting, a very entertaining story with stories related to each other and through a boxing coach who is cornered for a gangster, for the professional career of one of his fighters and for a television presenter who drags him to a life that is not his.
A crime novel about boxing, about the two sides from Madrid city divided by the M-30 and living behind each other; somewhat extreme, where to be a real man you have to be from Carabanchel or Vallecas and where the entire neighborhood of Salamanca or Aravaca are posh worlds isolated from the world; about the false world of junk television and entertainment; about the tacky Mafias type Los Soprano that roam freely through the seedy and posh Madrid. Gistau is a master of metaphor, of timely comparison, and whatever he writes suggests environments, people, and situations with a handful of well-chosen words. A novel of atmospheres, the plot is somewhat uchronic and implausible in that it links the world of boxing with that of organized crime, in Spain boxing is such a marginal sport that it does not even attract less brilliant thugs. A world of extremes, where cocaine is circulated at each party and organized fights are organized by boxers with a clean fist while the city guard turns a blind eye to the premises chosen by the gangster on duty. Entertaining, fun book.
