La doctora Ottavia Salina es una “paleógrafa” que trabaja en el Vaticano. Las reliquias de la Cruz Verdadera de todo el mundo han ido desapareciendo, y se sospecha que una oscura orden religiosa las colecciona. El propio Papa ordenó a Salina, junto con un pez gordo de la Guardia Suiza y un arqueólogo de renombre mundial, llegar al fondo de las desapariciones. El trío descubre una conexión con la Divina Comedia de Dante y, siguiendo las pistas dejadas en el texto clásico, persiguen la verdad en todo el mundo cristiano antiguo. Una vez en el modo de interpretar a Dante como una hoja de ruta para resolver siete acertijos mortales, encontré que el libro se volvía un poco aburrido. Sabemos que tendrán éxito. Las únicas preguntas que quedan son por qué el culto secreto está reuniendo los restos de la Cruz y qué motiva al Capitán Kaspar Glauser-Royst.
Aquí hay mucha carga útil, lo que compensa con creces los caracteres delgados. El trabajo de Dante se ve de una manera bastante diferente al análisis literario de variedad de jardín. ¿Realmente estaba escribiendo un mensaje codificado a un grupo selecto de entendidos? Aprendemos un poco sobre la historia de la iglesia primitiva y también sobre el funcionamiento del Vaticano. Aún así, fue una lectura entretenida y agradable.

No pasa mucho tiempo antes de que el trío descubra que los extraños tatuajes de cruces y letras griegas vinculan el cadáver con los Staurofilakes, una hermandad secreta dedicada a proteger la «Cruz Verdadera», la cruz en la que Jesucristo fue crucificado. A lo largo de los años, fragmentos de la Cruz han pasado fuera de su alcance a iglesias de toda Europa. Ahora, los Staurofilakes están robando los fragmentos de la Cruz, utilizando todos los medios necesarios para cumplir el juramento de hace mucho tiempo que hicieron para protegerla. Uno de los miembros más destacados de los Staurofilakes fue Dante Alighieri, y Ottavia y su equipo pronto se dieron cuenta de que Dante escondía secretos sobre los Staurofilakes en el texto de ‘La Divina Comedia’, su mayor obra. Estos secretos llevarán a Ottavia, La Roca y Farag a través de los siete niveles del Purgatorio (cada nivel representa uno de los siete pecados capitales) y a siete ciudades antiguas de Europa (Roma, Orgullo; Ravenna, Envidia; Jerusalén, Ira; Atenas, Pereza; Constantinopla, Codicia; Alejandría, Gula; y Antioquía, Lujuria). Si pueden sobrevivir a las pruebas de los Staurofilakes, obtendrán la entrada al Paraíso Terrenal y, con suerte, descubrirán el paradero de la Cruz Verdadera desaparecida para el Vaticano.
Dicho esto, el libro tiene un comentario en la portada que dice: «este libro hace por Dante lo que la novela de Brown hizo por da Vinci». Lo que realmente me llamó la atención fue el texto en negrita sobre la portada que decía ~ MEJOR VENDIDO INTERNACIONAL ~.
La verdad del asunto realmente es que bien puedo ser categorizado como una de esas personas que se ha cansado de la literatura bíblica con temas de misterio. Pero seguiré recomendando esta pieza a todos los que tengan apetito por los misterios bíblicos, o el misterio llano para el caso.

Doctor Ottavia Salina is a “paleographer” working at the Vatican. Relics of the True Cross from across the world have been disappearing, and an obscure religious order is suspected of collecting them. The pope himself has ordered Salina, together with a big shot in the Swiss Guard and a world-renowned archaeologist to get to the bottom of the disappearances. The trio discovers a connection to Dante’s Divine Comedy, and pursuing clues left in the classic text, they pursue the truth across the ancient Christian world. Once in the mode of interpreting Dante as a roadmap to solving seven deadly puzzles, I found the book to become a bit boring. We know they will succeed. The only questions remaining are why the secret cult is gathering the Cross remnants and what motivates Captain Kaspar Glauser-Royst.
There is plenty of payload here, which more than makes up for the thin characters. Dante’s work is viewed in a way quite different from garden-variety literary analysis. Was he really writing a coded message to a select group of the knowledgeable? We learn a fair bit about early church history, and also some of the workings of the Vatican. Still, it was an entertaining, enjoyable read.
Sister Ottavia Salina is a doctor of paleography, the director of the Vatican’s Classified Archives, and a member of the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She spends her days interpreting centuries-old documents only a handful of people have ever seen. When the body of an Ethiopian man covered with tattoos of crosses and Greek letters is discovered, the Vatican summons Dr. Salina to a private meeting. Given only the sparest of details about the events surrounding the Ethiopian man’s death, Ottavia is ordered to discover the origins of and meaning behind the strange tattoos. There to help her with her interpretation are Captain Glauser-Röist («The Rock,» as Ottavia calls him, is the captain of the Vatican’s elite Swiss Guard) and Farag Boswell, a half-English, half-Arabian archaeologist working in Alexandria.
It isn’t long before the trio discovers that the strange tattoos of crosses and Greek letters link the corpse to the Staurofilakes, a secret brotherhood dedicated to protecting the «True Cross,» the cross on which Jesus Christ was crucified. Over the years, fragments of the Cross have passed out of their reach, to churches all over Europe. Now, the Staurofilakes are stealing the fragments of the Cross back, using any means necessary to fulfill the long-ago oath they made to protect it. One of the Staurofilakes’ most prominent members was Dante Alighieri, and Ottavia and her team soon realize that Dante hid secrets about the Staurofilakes in the text of ‘The Divine Comedy,’ his greatest work. These secrets will take Ottavia, The Rock, and Farag through the seven levels of Purgatory (each level representing one of the seven deadly sins) and to seven ancient cities in Europe (Rome, Pride; Ravenna, Envy; Jerusalem, Anger; Athens, Sloth; Constantinople, Greed; Alexandria, Gluttony; and Antioch, Lust). If they can survive the Staurofilakes’ tests, they will earn entrance into the Earthly Paradise–and hopefully discover the whereabouts of the missing True Cross for the Vatican.
That being said, the book has a comment on the front cover stating: «this book does for Dante what Brown’s novel did for da Vinci.» What caught my attention really was the bold lettered text above the front cover saying ~INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER~.
The truth of the matter really is that I may well be categorized as one of those people who has grown tired of biblical mystery themed literature. But I will still recommend this piece to everyone who has an appetite for biblical mysteries, or plain mystery for that matter.

David, earth planet , knopfler and a humble man 
Podría decir casi con seguridad que este libro es uno de mis favoritos. Tengo varios de Matilde Asensi pero éste en concreo es memorable. Se lo recomen´dé a miembros de mi familia y también lo devoraron.
