En esta ocasión tenemos una obra más extensa presentada en subcapítulos muy cortos, incardinadas en capítulos en torno a la hora de duración, dependiendo ya de su hábito de lectura.
Como seguidor del autor expongo los pros del ensayo: Fácil lectura;te hace dudar; incita a la lectura; buena bibliografía y apéndices; detalle acertado de las formas de manipulación de empresas, gobiernos (soft, hard y sharp power) y otros actores.
Contras: Escasa profundidad en algunos temas (El capítulo 1 puede encuadrarse en Soft Power de las RRII y es algo manido) mientras que en otros (tercero) me sobraron páginas; si uds sigue al autor muchos aportes de libro le resultarán familiares; aportes como el control que sufrimos a través de las ondas emandas de la TV son cuestionables, es decir, falta probarlos (más allá de lo que escucharán entre bambalinas),y, en ese sentido varias cosas que, en fin, muy cuestionables.
Concluyendo, es un libro interesante para los que desconzcan el tema y decidan conocerlo, toca muchos temas interesantes, sin embargo, si uds es lector de ensayos políticos y sociales, tendrá la sensación de conocer de antemano y, mejor la temática expuesta por el Coronel, aunque ello no es óbice para disfrutarlo.
La geopolítica actual va mucho más allá de límites geográficos concretos —origen de su nombre— para convertirse en el ejercicio de un geopoder con ambiciones universales. Se materializa en la permanente rivalidad por el control de toda la humanidad. Y la forma mejor, la más completa, de lograr dicho control total es actuar sobre la mente de las personas, lo que hoy es más sencillo que nunca gracias a las nuevas tecnologías. Así, el geopoder definitivo se alcanza cuando las mentes quedan subyugadas, a merced de los grandes hacedores.
Aunque la manipulación puede parecer un invento moderno, nos ha acompañado durante nuestra evolución como seres humanos. Cuando solo nos preocupaba conseguir recursos para alimentarnos y sobrevivir, ya importaba manejar a nuestros semejantes. Quien más control tenía sobre la mente de los demás, mejor acceso a los recursos conseguía, más fuerte se hacía y mejor era su línea evolutiva. Esto se explica si dejamos de entender la manipulación únicamente como un conjunto de técnicas modernas que conllevan el uso de medios de comunicación, de ondas cerebrales o de reconocimiento facial para mantenernos bajo control y decidir por nosotros.
El sistema de pago electrónico será otra herramienta de control y dominio social. Una vez completamente incorporado, la siguiente fase será que alguien decidirá en qué y para qué se debe gastar el dinero. Solo afectará a la gente normal, pues los delincuentes y las agencias de inteligencia, por ejemplo, siempre encontrarán otras formas de pago, sea con metales y piedras preciosas, drogas, tráficos ilícitos o servicios diversos.
Otra forma tradicional de dominación indirecta de la sociedad es el miedo. Si el poder es capaz de inculcar en las poblaciones un temor tal a cierta amenaza, haciéndole creer que tiene el potencial de afectar de modo estructural, cuando no existencial, a su modo de vida, pocos ciudadanos se resistirán a la imposición de las más estrictas medidas de seguridad. Aun cuando les limiten, o incluso les prohíban, el ejercicio de derechos que hasta entonces habían considerado fundamentales y, por tanto, inamovibles.
La manipulación social es clave para conseguir el dominio mental. Este, a su vez, contribuye al dominio mundial.
Existen muchos procedimientos para engañar a la mente de los que ninguno estamos a salvo, y de los que los poderosos se aprovechan descaradamente con fines principalmente económicos o políticos. Nuestra mente es un codiciado tesoro, el Santo Grial de la manipulación.
Podemos resignarnos a pensar que debe ser así, sin remedio. O empezar a entrenar nuestra mente y a despertar nuestros sentidos. Ningún esfuerzo es en vano si conduce a una gran meta.
La clave para conseguir el control mental de la población es entretener y distraer. En otras palabras: que nadie piense en aquello que no interesa. En su día, la religión fue considerada el opio del pueblo. Hoy en día, la misma metáfora es válida para el fútbol o los programas de cotilleo. Todos desempeñan el mismo papel: distraernos de las decisiones y cuestiones que realmente tienen un impacto decisivo sobre nuestras vidas. Mientras miramos para otro lado, y más si encima nos sentimos felices, con estímulos que agradan a nuestros sentidos, nuestra mente subconsciente queda desprotegida. Así resulta mucho más fácil negociar con nuestras vidas a nuestras espaldas y convencernos de que lo que nos muestran es la única realidad, la única verdad.
La esencia del cine es dar espectáculo, entretener. Proporcionar fantasías y sueños que abstraigan al espectador de la realidad. Hacerle olvidar las penalidades y los esfuerzos. Conseguir que sea temporalmente feliz. Pero, precisamente por esas características, también ha sido empleado para transmitir ideas, alterar comportamientos y costumbres, para modificar sociedades enteras.
Una de las formas más exitosas para condicionar la mente y conseguir que interiorice mensajes sin apenas darse cuenta es la música. ¿Cuánta gente ha aprendido inglés oyendo música? Tras escuchar mil y una veces la misma letra, la mente termina por interiorizarla de tal modo que nunca llega a olvidarse. Ahora bien, no decidimos qué mensaje deja huella en nuestra mente y cuál no. De hecho, no es raro escuchar una canción sin prestar especial atención a su letra o sin llegar a distinguir con claridad cuál es el mensaje. Sin embargo, nuestra mente subconsciente lo está absorbiendo todo. Si el mensaje no nos llega con nitidez, no podemos decidir si queremos aceptarlo o rechazarlo. Pero, cada vez que la mente subconsciente lo capta, a cada nueva repetición, lo acepta con mayor facilidad y agrado. De repente, un día, sin darnos cuenta, forman parte de nosotros unos valores y prejuicios que no hemos formado de forma consciente, pero de los que es muy difícil desprenderse.
El poder de la música para generarnos emociones y alterar nuestro estado mental ha sido reconocido a lo largo de la historia.
Todos somos esclavos de nuestras emociones. Y esta esclavitud moderna consiste en hacernos llegar la información directamente al corazón sin pasar por la cabeza, sin que medie la reflexión ni el análisis, sin darnos tiempo para pensar y dudar. De este modo se consigue la manipulación perfecta, el control absoluto de las mentes, pues la información no ha llegado a la parte reflexiva de nuestro cerebro, sino al centro de gravedad de nuestras emociones.
Los argumentos emocionales siempre han sido los más eficaces para conseguir levantar pasiones en la audiencia por encima de su raciocinio, para alterar su voluntad sin que tengan en cuenta razones o argumentos.
El mantener a los ciudadanos en un estado de «infantilización» es una estrategia clásica llevada a cabo por todos los poderes. El motivo es sencillo: la infancia es el periodo en el que somos más influenciables, más proclives a la sugestión. Así, ese infantilismo equivale a la no asunción de responsabilidades, al convencimiento de que alguien solucionará los problemas a los «niños».
Las élites no tienen interés en dar a las personas las herramientas precisas para la vida, para valerse por sí mismas. En su lugar, optan porque se las pidan a ellas, consiguiendo así el control absoluto. Y nada mejor para ello que mantenerlas en un estado infantil. El sistema se encarga de crear «adultos-niños», con poca capacidad de crítica, inmaduros, volubles y manipulables.
Una de las técnicas más eficientes para programar mentalmente a una sociedad es la repetición incesante de un mismo mensaje, corto y fácil de comprender hasta por la persona más obtusa.
La familiaridad que se produce con el mensaje repetidamente difundido por todos los medios posibles tiene un gran impacto psicológico.
La información manipulada que transmiten los medios no tiene únicamente una finalidad comercial o política de corto alcance, sino que también responde a proyectos de reprogramación social más amplios.
El exceso de información no es más que otra traca de estímulos que conlleva, como eslabón final, una anulación del raciocinio y una carencia para reaccionar.
El framing (término derivado del inglés frame , «marco») es uno de los métodos empleados por los medios de comunicación para enmarcar la información de tal manera que altere el proceso cognitivo de la audiencia, al hacerle entender los hechos de una forma determinada. Se basa, a fin de cuentas, en una estrategia que podríamos llamar «prometo que no miento».
La educación actual es una farsa. Hoy en día, cada individuo deja de forma constante innumerables huellas digitales de su persona: desde rasgos psicológicos a físicos, desde inclinaciones ideológicas a preferencias alimentarias. Todos esos datos dibujan un detallado cuadro de la estructura física y mental de una persona, y la información obtenida de millones de individuos ofrece patrones de comportamiento que radiografían en detalle la sociedad a la que se desea condicionar.
Existen entidades públicas y privadas dispuestas a pagar, y mucho, por hacerse con esa información. Se podría decir que el fundamento de la ingeniería social es la minería de datos, es decir, extraer información sobre los individuos para venderla al mejor postor.
El hackeo cognitivo encubierto implica una manipulación sutil de la percepción y el empleo de información engañosa. Es la técnica usada por los estafadores desde hace milenios: el atacante lleva a cabo su engaño simulando ser una parte de una operación legítima.
En el hackeo cognitivo abierto, el actuante manipula medios de comunicación para influir en la víctima. No esconde su ataque, sino que, al contrario, lo hace público y accesible, aparentando legitimidad. Es el procedimiento preferido por los poderes con mayores recursos, como el acceso a influyentes medios de comunicación y también a la legislación vigente, lo que les permite castigar a los disidentes.
Singapur es un caso paradigmático. Ha creado mecanismos para incluir en una misma línea histórica a todas las etnias y culturas del país. Lo primero que hizo, tras independizarse en 1963, fue analizar la composición de su población y sus creencias. Con los datos obtenidos, empleó el confucianismo, la creencia más extendida, para diseñar un marco de convivencia que contrarrestase la influencia occidental de décadas anteriores. Se eligió este sistema filosófico y religioso como pilar de la nueva identidad nacional por tres principales razones: era parte de la herencia china, enfatizaba la importancia de situar la sociedad por encima del individuo y muchos de sus preceptos seguían siendo relevantes para el país.
En definitiva, todos estamos tan manipulados y condicionados que, por más que nos esforcemos, casi la única decisión que nos queda por tomar es quién preferimos que nos controle y maneje.
Podemos seguir por este camino, ¿quién es nadie para impedírnoslo? Podemos continuar con nuestra inocente felicidad, con nuestra dócil bondad y creer que alguien a quien votemos, alguna autoridad todopoderosa, vendrá a soltar nuestras cadenas y conseguirá, por y para nosotros, una sociedad en la que reinen la justicia, la igualdad y la libertad. Pero eso no va a suceder. La verdad es un camino estrecho por el que no resulta agradable pasar, una elección de vida no exenta de golpes y dificultades. Pero, puesto que vida no hay más que una, ¿para qué poseemos raciocinio y un magnífico cerebro si no es para usarlo? ¿Para qué existe la palabra libertad si no es para intentar alcanzarla?
Si nosotros no tomamos las riendas de nuestras vidas, de nuestras mentes, de nuestras emociones, habrá quien lo haga con gusto por nosotros.
Toda esta tecnología de reconocimiento facial, esté instalada en la esquina de una calle, en un centro comercial o en nuestro móvil, no es más que otra constatación de que vivimos en un mundo donde nuestra privacidad está en entredicho. Lo que parece importarnos cada vez menos. La comodidad, la despreocupación y la imitación de los demás nos ha llevado a entregar nuestra privacidad e intimidad a las diferentes plataformas de internet, aplicaciones y redes sociales. Prácticamente nadie lee las larguísimas y complejas políticas de privacidad.
Internet se ha convertido en el instrumento fundamental para la manipulación social. Se consigue saber todo sobre nosotros. Los gigantes tecnológicos, y por ende los Estados, llegan a conocernos mejor que la familia y las personas que nos rodean. Y cuanto mejor nos conozcan, más fácil será condicionar nuestras emociones y conductas, vendernos lo que se supone que necesitamos —incluso si ni siquiera lo hemos pensado todavía—, orientar nuestras ideologías o inclinar el voto en las siguientes elecciones.
Otro de los virus que nos han metido en casa de forma silenciosa y sin retorno son las aplicaciones de videoconferencias. Si su uso ya estaba empezando a despegar, la pandemia del coronavirus les ha otorgado el empujón decisivo para pasar a formar parte de nuestra cotidianidad. Ahora no son solo herramientas aliadas, son cadenas obligatorias. Un hilo conductor entre nuestros hogares y el mundo exterior, y una fuente tremendamente rica de información. A través de aplicaciones como Zoom o Google Meet, le abrimos al espía la puerta de nuestros rincones más íntimos.
Cuando veamos un aparato electrónico que lleva el apellido smart , esta palabra equivale a «espía». Y, además de proporcionarnos el lógico servicio para el que fue fabricado, puede servir para conocer todos y cada uno de los aspectos de nuestra existencia. Una vigilancia que servirá, luego, para manipularnos mejor.
Las mismas técnicas y procedimientos empleados actualmente en el neuromarketing se pueden emplear, y de hecho se emplean, en el ámbito político. Una vez conocidas las reacciones de los ciudadanos a determinados estímulos emocionales relacionados con el contexto político (alocuciones, imágenes de los políticos, programas, carteles, mensajes), se pueden determinar los programas y proyectos políticos o las normas que se impondrán a la sociedad. En definitiva, esos medios permiten planificar una campaña o acción concreta con mayores garantías de éxito. Por ello, la propaganda mental tiene un valor enorme.
Con la experiencia de lo que hicieron bolcheviques, fascistas y nazis, los cuales no hubieran alcanzado el poder sin la propaganda política.
Nunca debemos olvidar que la verdadera libertad consiste en no aceptar imposiciones ni proselitismos de ningún tipo. Ni sociales, ni ideológicos, ni políticos. Que cada uno en verdad hagamos o dejemos de hacer lo que, tras una profunda introspección personal, consideremos que es lo que realmente deseamos, lo que corresponde a nuestras inclinaciones y preferencias. Sin tener que aparentar lo que no somos, ni disimular lo que sí somos. Sin reproches. Sin que nadie nos empuje a actuar por intereses que no se corresponden con los nuestros.
Habremos alcanzado la verdadera libertad cuando nos respetemos, nos respeten y respetemos a los demás por nuestro propio convencimiento. Sin falsos paternalismos que solo camuflan formas espurias de poder absoluto.
La neuroestimulación tiene el mayor potencial jamás conocido hoy para manipular la mente mediante la inducción de estímulos eléctricos en el cerebro. Una vez que se conoce cómo funciona, qué partes se activan para la realización de tareas, cómo se agrupan las neuronas en determinadas aéreas y qué tipo de neuronas son, resulta posible alterar todo este funcionamiento natural mediante la aplicación de estímulos electromagnéticos. La realidad, por más que parezca sacada de una película de terror, es que se puede moldear la personalidad de una persona mediante nanotecnología insertada o acoplada al cuerpo.
Y la personalidad no es lo único que la nanotecnología puede dominar. Una vez manipulado el cerebro, el funcionamiento de todo el cuerpo es susceptible de serlo.
La pérdida de privacidad, especialmente relacionada con la posibilidad de descifrar los neurodatos, la información recogida en el cerebro. Una vez que sea posible descifrar y conocer los pensamientos de una persona, los últimos reductos de privacidad habrán desaparecido para siempre.
Aunque la CIA siempre ha negado oficialmente estar implicada en la investigación parapsicológica, algunos documentos, evidencias y rumores demuestran su genuino interés en el tema. Un memorándum de la agencia indica que, en 1961, el subproyecto 136 del programa MKUltra (enfocado al control del comportamiento humano) financiaba en secreto investigaciones parapsicológicas a través de instituciones privadas. También se ha podido conocer que la CIA contó con los servicios de varios videntes, incluida una extraordinaria niña de nueve años, quien habría advertido sobre un intento de asesinato contra Reagan, anunciado la próxima caída del presidente soviético Yuri Andrópov y buscado psíquicamente al general James L. Así mismo, Victor Marchetti, conocido disidente de la CIA, en la que había sido ayudante especial del subdirector, aseguraba que durante los años cincuenta algunos miembros de esta agencia intentaron contactar —por medios espiritistas— con agentes soviéticos muertos, convencidos de que en el más allá estos habrían comprendido los errores del materialismo comunista y estarían dispuestos a colaborar con Estados Unidos.
Algunas noticias apuntan a que actualmente se puede estar empleando animales marinos dotados de una particular inteligencia, como los delfines, para fines militares.
A finales de abril de 2019, trascendió la noticia de que pescadores noruegos habían encontrado en el Ártico un cetáceo, en concreto, una ballena beluga, que llevaba un arnés con un soporte para una cámara (esta no apareció) y que podría estar siendo empleada por los rusos para espiar. Se le dio el apodo de Hvaldimir , y algunos pensaron que podría ser parte de un programa más amplio de la Marina rusa. Las belugas, como los delfines y las orcas, son bastante inteligentes y sociales, de modo que pueden ser entrenadas al igual que los perros, animales de uso frecuente en misiones militares.
A mediados de julio de 2020, un artículo aparecido en la revista Forbes informaba que imágenes tomadas por satélite en noviembre del año anterior sugerían que Rusia había enviado delfines entrenados a la guerra en Siria. Concretamente se hablaba de dos mamíferos marinos en las proximidades del puerto de Tartús, donde las fuerzas rusas tienen una base naval.
Esta crisis del coronavirus ha propiciado una serie de gestos preocupantes. Algunos ya estaban integrados en nuestro día a día, pero se han potenciado. Sin que nadie se los plantee lo más mínimo.
La pandemia de la COVID-19 está acelerando la implantación de los instrumentos digitales en todos los ámbitos, desde la educación y el teletrabajo hasta la economía. Es el caso del dinero digital.
En España, durante los meses del confinamiento y posteriores, se redujo el uso del dinero en metálico en un 20 %, como quedó demostrado por la inferior retirada de billetes de los cajeros automáticos. Además de por el deterioro económico provocado por la pandemia, muchas personas dejaron de usar el metálico por temor a contagiarse.
Con ocasión de la crisis mundial generada por la pandemia del coronavirus, Bill Gates —una de las personas más ricas e influyentes del mundo— comentó que, para evitar una situación similar, lo adecuado sería vacunar a toda la población mundial. A nadie le pareció extraño, quitando a algunos contrarios acérrimos a las vacunas en general. Se consideraba una medida sanitaria preventiva lógica. Sobre todo, si se pensaba en el terrible daño —sanitario y económico— que estaba empezando a causar la COVID-19, con resultados finales entonces todavía imprevisibles. Aún parecía más loable su intención al prometer Gates colaborar económicamente, de manera directa o a través de su fundación, la cual comparte con su esposa Melinda.
Pero había una segunda parte del discurso del filántropo y cofundador de Microsoft que sí puso en alerta a algunas personas. Gates preconizaba que, al tiempo que se inoculaba la vacuna, a las personas se les introdujera un microchip que permitiese su control. Por supuesto, el conjunto estaría, en principio, dirigido a poner en marcha las medidas precisas para prevenir y atajar otra futura pandemia. Conocer todos los datos de las personas, merced a ese microchip, permitiría estar al corriente de sus movimientos, de sus relaciones físicas con otras personas…
Lo cierto es que, ante este panorama, a las autoridades solo les quedará el recurso de proporcionar más y más entretenimiento a las masas para mantenerlas en un estado de atonía, de evasión irreflexiva que evite cualquier atisbo de rebelión. El «ocio gratuito» será el complemento perfecto para tener a los ciudadanos preocupados de banalidades y de lo que hacen y dicen las personas que vean en películas, series y reality shows , como forma de que no presten atención a sus propias vidas.
A lo que se unirá alguna forma de atontamiento y aletargamiento. Quizá la solución venga de lo que Niño-Becerra refiere como «marihuana legal».
Esto, que sucederá principalmente dentro de los países más desarrollados, ocurrirá también en los menos avanzados. A estos últimos también habrá que «narcotizarlos» de alguna forma para que no molesten en exceso a los privilegiados. Como mucho, se les dejará que sigan sirviendo de proveedores de materias primas a un razonable coste.
Somos menos ovejas de lo que nos han hecho creer. El primer paso para desprendernos de este lastre con el que nos han cargado es ser conscientes de ello.
Luego, debemos mantener la esperanza en que la fortuna nos sonría y un día surjan verdaderos líderes que nos guíen respetando nuestro pleno libre albedrío y garantizando todas y cada una de las libertades individuales. Que devuelvan al pueblo la auténtica soberanía que los actuales, aprovechando el desvirtuado sistema democrático actual, nos han sustraído.
El proceso para desintoxicarnos de la narcotización en la que nos han sumido no será fácil. Liberarnos del yugo del dominio mental nos llevará tiempo y el camino será tortuoso. Los que ven peligrar su poder y sus privilegios nos pondrán infinidad de trabas y trampas. Pero hay que hacerlo por nuestra libertad.

Although manipulation may seem like a modern invention, it has accompanied us throughout our evolution as human beings. When we were only concerned with obtaining resources to feed ourselves and survive, it was already important to manage our fellow men. The one who had more control over the minds of others, the better access to resources he got, the stronger he became and the better his evolutionary line. This is explained if we stop understanding manipulation solely as a set of modern techniques that involve the use of media, brain waves or facial recognition to keep us under control and decide for us.
The electronic payment system will be another tool for control and social dominance. Once fully incorporated, the next phase will be for someone to decide what and for what the money should be spent. It will only affect normal people, since criminals and intelligence agencies, for example, will always find other forms of payment, be it with metals and precious stones, drugs, illicit traffic or various services.
Another traditional form of indirect domination of society is fear. If power is capable of instilling in populations such a fear of a certain threat, making them believe that it has the potential to affect their way of life in a structural, if not existential way, few citizens will resist the imposition of the strictest security measures. Even when they limit, or even prohibit, the exercise of rights that until then they had considered fundamental and, therefore, irremovable.
Social manipulation is key to achieving mental dominance. This, in turn, contributes to world dominance.
There are many procedures to deceive the mind from which none of us are safe, and from which the powerful blatantly exploit for primarily economic or political purposes. Our mind is a coveted treasure, the Holy Grail of manipulation.
We can resign ourselves to thinking that it must be like that, without remedy. Or start training our mind and awakening our senses. No effort is wasted if it leads to a great goal.
The key to achieving mind control of the population is to entertain and distract. In other words: let no one think about what is not interesting. In its day, religion was considered the opium of the people. Today, the same metaphor holds true for soccer or gossip shows. They all play the same role: distracting us from the decisions and issues that really have a decisive impact on our lives. While we look the other way, and even more so if we feel happy, with stimuli that please our senses, our subconscious mind remains unprotected. This makes it much easier to negotiate with our lives behind our backs and convince ourselves that what they show us is the only reality, the only truth.
The essence of cinema is to show, to entertain. Provide fantasies and dreams that abstract the viewer from reality. Make him forget the hardships and efforts. Get him to be temporarily happy. But, precisely because of these characteristics, it has also been used to transmit ideas, alter behaviors and customs, to modify entire societies.
One of the most successful ways to condition the mind and get it to internalize messages without even realizing it is music. How many people have learned English by listening to music? After hearing the same lyrics a thousand and one times, the mind ends up internalizing it in such a way that it is never forgotten. Now, we do not decide which message leaves its mark on our mind and which does not. In fact, it is not uncommon to listen to a song without paying special attention to its lyrics or without being able to clearly distinguish what the message is. However, our subconscious mind is absorbing everything. If the message does not reach us clearly, we cannot decide if we want to accept or reject it. If we do not take control of our lives, our minds, our emotions, there will be someone who will gladly do it for us.
All this facial recognition technology, whether installed on the corner of a street, in a shopping center or on our mobile phone, is just another confirmation that we live in a world where our privacy is in question. If their use was already starting to take off, the coronavirus pandemic has given them the decisive push to become part of our daily lives. Now they are not just allied tools, they are mandatory chains. A common thread between our homes and the outside world, and a tremendously rich source of information. Through applications such as Zoom or Google Meet, we open the door to our most intimate corners for the spy.
When we see an electronic device that bears the surname smart, this word is equivalent to «spy.» And, in addition to providing us with the logical service for which it was manufactured, it can serve to learn about each and every aspect of our existence. A surveillance that will serve, later, to manipulate us better.

Without having to pretend what we are not, or hide what we are. Without reproaches. Without anyone pushing us to act for interests that do not correspond to ours.
We will have achieved true freedom when we respect ourselves, we respect ourselves and we respect others by our own conviction. Without false paternalisms that only camouflage spurious forms of absolute power.
