En este nuevo libro del autor nos adentramos en el mundo de Fierro, un personaje duro, bregado en las guerras contra los moros en tiempos de Reconquista. Con una ambientación exquisita y un vocabulario que nos sumerge en la época, el viaje emocional a nuestro pasado está servido. La narrativa de Narla me fascinó en algunos momentos nuevamente, la capacidad de emocionarme en determinadas escenas, de sentir la desolación ante los acontecimientos, es una muestra del buen hacer del autor. En mi opinión, la novela tiene todos los ingredientes para que se nos asiente en la memoria. Fierro es un personaje que recordaré.
Se trata de una novela histórica, como atestiguan sus personajes, escenarios y sucesos. Sin embargo, si tuviera que resumir la historia en dos palabras, esas serían amor y venganza. Ella, su presencia, está en cada una de las páginas y es la brújula que guía cada uno de sus pasos y por ella, por vengar su pérdida sigue vivo. No es un héroe, no es un caballero de brillante armadura, no busca el perdón de sus pecados, sólo quiere poner orden, encajar las piezas del puzzle de su existencia y lograr el que para él es el final más adecuado a su ya largo caminar entre los vivos y es que «a la puta de la guadaña ya le tenía confianza».
Fierro es una novela histórica cargada de aventuras, que aunque no se dice, transcurre en el año 1212, que fue famoso por la batalla de Las Navas de Tolosa. Por cierto me ha gustado la manera de narrar el suceso histórico.

«No era el más valiente. Tampoco el más espabilado. Todos esos ya estaban muertos. Él los había conocido. (…) Todos muertos. Pero él seguía vivo. No era el más valiente. Tampoco el más espabilado. Solo un tipo que jamás se rendía».

A destacar, el retrato de un mundo que queda muy lejos de las bellas estampas con las que a veces se nos pinta el mundo medieval. Una visión muy alejada de los palacios, pues no deja de ser la historia de un hombre que se dedica a sobrevivir como puede, cuidando unos panales de abejas de las que va a sacar más cagarrutas de ratones que miel, hablando con su perro y con su difunta esposa. Un hombre solitario que domina el terreno que pisa y en el que es capaz de sobrevivir apenas con la ayuda de su fierro, una vara que tiene más utilidades que la de apoyarse en ella para caminar.
Una atmósfera en muchos momentos opresiva y en las que el autor hace vivir a su personaje una aventura tras otra.

In this new book by the author we delve into the world of Fierro, a tough character, struggled in the wars against the Moors in times of Reconquest. With an exquisite setting and a vocabulary that immerses us in the times, the emotional journey to our past is served. Narla’s narrative fascinated me in some moments again, the ability to get excited in certain scenes, to feel desolation in the face of events, is a sample of the author’s good work. In my opinion, the novel has all the ingredients for us to settle in memory. Fierro is a character that I will remember.
It is a historical novel, as its characters, settings and events attest. However, if I were to summarize the story in two words, those would be love and revenge. She, his presence, is in each of the pages and is the compass that guides each of his steps and for her, to avenge his loss, he is still alive. He is not a hero, he is not a knight in shining armor, he does not seek forgiveness for his sins, he only wants to put order, fit the pieces of the puzzle of his existence and achieve what for him is the most appropriate end to his long walk among the living and is that «I already had confidence in the scythe whore».
Fierro is a historical novel full of adventures, which although it is not said, takes place in 1212, which was famous for the battle of Las Navas de Tolosa. By the way I liked the way of narrating the historical event.

To highlight, the portrait of a world that is far from the beautiful prints with which we sometimes paint the medieval world. A vision very far from the palaces, because it is still the story of a man who dedicates himself to surviving as he can, taking care of some honeycombs from which he will get more mouse crap than honey, talking with his dog and with his late wife. A solitary man who dominates the terrain he steps on and in which he is able to survive only with the help of his iron, a rod that has more benefits than that of leaning on it to walk.
An atmosphere that is often oppressive and in which the author makes his character live one adventure after another.
