Esta es una nueva entrega con el investigador Charlie Parker y como todas las novelas de Connolly simplemente es absorbente, empiezas leyendo y te va tejiendo la argumentación de manera que devoras el libro, nuevamente ambientada en Maine y con Angel y Louis de escuderos, sin duda de fondo está la corrupción y la especulación, en las profundidades del bosque un accidente aéreo y el bosque lo engulle como triángulo de las Bermudas, cantidades ingentes de dinero y recuerdos de los habitantes, pero el binomio de Darina una mujer con cara deformada y un niño harán de Parker tener todos los sentidos alerta, el juez Eldritch así como Epstein conocidos de anteriores entregas hacen que Parker deba dar caza al coleccionista como a Brightwell y esperemos que la lista desaparezca.Además tuve la suerte que John Connolly estuviese promocionando la novela en la feria del libro de Madrid y además de gran escritor mejor persona, tuve suerte que me firmase el libro…lo mejor está por llegar y Parker es inmortal.

Y comienza una carrera entre varias fuerzas opuestas para descubrir las listas con Charlie en el medio, motivada por la historia que la hija de uno de los cazadores le cuenta que ella había aprendido de su padre moribundo. La capacidad del autor para hacer que los aspectos sobrenaturales de sus cuentos sean casi creíbles desafía la imaginación. Las listas contienen los nombres de las personas que han hecho un trato con el diablo. Los bosques están habitados por una joven espectral que busca atraer a otros cuerpos para hacerle compañía. Las fuerzas del mal están representadas por ángeles caídos. Ahí está el Coleccionista, que juzga a aquellos que sacaría de circulación. Y siempre está Charlie, supuestamente del lado de la justicia. Todo un cuento, y recomendado.

A new book about adventures from famous Charlie Parker in Maine, The States, a great argument and when you’re beginning the book,the end is nearest, a mingle with mistery, violence, speculation rife as corruption in a vast woodland,an aircash and lots of thousands greenbacks as a list where all members are killed, lots of keepsakes from population and a damned binomy a beauty woman called Darina, a scarface and a boy…paying attention to Charlie Parker, oldest chaps from before books as «jews» (Eipstein) and a baddie lawyer (Eldritch), it’s a race between Parker against a demon aka as «collector» besides odour of Brightwell. Besides John Connolly’s promoting this novel at Madrid Book Fair 2014, he’s signed my book and a great writer and better humble man… The best’s coming and Parker’s inmortal by Connolly. Hats off John and reading these books.
This 11th novel in the Charlie Parker series carries the reader deep into the surrealistic world the author once again creates. And brings back two of the Maine detective’s betes noir: the Collector and Brightman, the latter coming back in the form of a child after Charlie shot him to death in a different form. Of course, Angel and Louis, as well as Rabbi Epstein, get to play roles as well.
It all begins when two hunters discover a plane which had crashed in the Maine northern woods, in which are found lots of cash and a satchel containing lists of names. And a race begins among various opposing forces to discover the lists with Charlie in the middle, prompted by the story the daughter of one of the hunters tells him which she had learned from her dying father.
The author’s ability to make the supernatural aspects of his tales almost believable defies the imagination. The lists contain the names of people who have made a deal with the devil. The woods are inhabited by a spectral young girl seeking to lure other bodies to keep her company. The forces of evil are represented by fallen angels. There is the Collector, who sits in judgment of those he would take out of circulation. And there is always Charlie, supposedly on the side of justice. Quite a tale, and recommended.
