Con esta novela este escritor irlandés gano el premio Booker en el 2005 y destaca por los claro oscuros de su prosa, esta novela trata sobre los recuerdos del verano y la percepción de matices y tonalidades diferentes en la infancia y cuando eres mayor y a muerto un ser querido y vuelves para rendirle homenaje , en todo ello la figura de una Lolita como Chloe , hace de esta novela aunque para algunos quizás densa una magnífica novela.
