Sin duda esta es otra buena novela de esta escritora que se centra sobre el camino de Santiago, la trama está argumentada en 2 etapas primero en Iría Flavia con Teodomiro y sobre todo Bilibio alrededor del 860 y donde se dice que la tumba del apóstol Santiago no contiene sus huesos y son de Teodomiro, partiendo de esto y en la búsqueda de la verdad «la inventio», además las andanzas e huida de Mabilia a través del camino de Santiago y su encuentro con el cantero Arno que da alma a las piedras te hace sentir que el libro se bebe a través de sus páginas en la búsqueda de el «locus sancti Iacobi», el malvado tío de Mabilia la buscara removiendo cielo y tierra y desde luego al acabar el libro parecemos haber coronado el monte do gozo, a disfrutarlo.
La idea es buena, ya que utiliza como base la teoría que sostiene que bajo el supuesto descubrimiento en el siglo IX de la tumba del Apóstol Santiago, se ocultaba el intento de los seguidores de Prisciliano, de sacralizar la tumba de este y poder venerarla sin cortapisas, amparados en la veneración del Apóstol.
Prisciliano fue un obispo Hispano ejecutado en Treveris en el siglo IV (385 dc) por supuestas conductas heréticas, pero que tenía y mantuvo durante siglos muchos seguidores en Hispania debido a sus enseñanzas que defendían un cristianismo más puro, alejado de las jerarquías justo en un momento histórico en que el Cristianismo fue declarado como única religión oficial del imperio por Teodosio. En este momento la doctrina de Prisciliano no era aceptable y fue ejecutado por las malas artes de otros obispos cristianos (también Hispanos) y por un emperador Hispano, Magno Clemente Máximo, en ese momento emperador de la parte Occidental del Imperio, que pretendía atraerse el apoyo de las élites eclesiásticas en su lucha con Teodosio, emperador de la parte oriental del Imperio y también Hispano. A la postre Teodosio ganó unificando por última vez el Imperio.
Se supone que Prisciliano fue llevado por sus seguidores a Hispania y enterrado en secreto en la Gallaecia, siendo guardado el secreto de su tumba por sus seguidores…y ahí comienza la leyenda.
En la novela de todo esto ni papa, vagas referencias, se echa en falta algo de erudición sobre el tema. El libro se desarrolla en dos lineas temporales, una en la época del «descubrimiento» de la tumba y otra a comienzos del Siglo XII, cuando el Camino se ha convertido en un fenómeno social y económico sin precedentes en Europa, enviando miles de peregrinos desde Europa hacia los precarios reinos Peninsulares que se estaban empezando a consolidarse y, para los cuales, el impulso social, económico y cultural del Camino de Santiago fue decisivo.
El argumento y los personajes de estas dos historias son entre poco y nada creíbles, sobran páginas por todos lados, todo ello amparado en historias de canteros priscilianistas que dejan sus marcas en la piedra señalando el camino donde supuestamente se ha ocultado la verdad sobre el descubrimiento de la supuesta tumba del Apóstol……
